Tattersall Casablanca First to Use
WaveFrame/7 Systems on Feature

New WaveFrame Debuts with MADI Output to Harrison Console

April 26, 2001 TORONTO, CANADA - Tattersall Casablanca, Canada's top full service post-production facility, has become the first post facility to use WaveFrame’s new Waveframe/7 system on a major feature film dub mix. Three systems were used to provide 96 channels of digital audio playback at the dub mix of the new feature film The 51st State. The upcoming action film, starring Samuel L. Jackson (Shaft) and Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty) and directed by Ronnie Yu, required direct digital connection between the mixing console and the editing systems. In order to achieve this goal, Tattersall Casablanca chose three of WaveFrame’s new WaveFrame/7 systems connected directly to it's Harrison Series 12 console via a MADI digital interface.

David McCallum, Supervising Sound Effects Editor on The 51st State, said "The efficiency of the WaveFrame/7 System in delivering media at the dub was crucial. We needed extremely fast turn around with locked picture sometimes arriving during the pre-mixes. With the number of tracks cut, we really needed to eliminate the conversion or layback that is required when using traditional digital dubbers or DA 88. We had 3 WaveFrame/7 Systems right next to the Harrison Digital Console, and with 32 tracks playing back per system we were able to run 96 channels of digital audio across 3 small coaxial cables. We couldn’t be happier with the way the systems performed"

According to WaveFrame President Ron Franklin, “Tattersall Casablanca is a leader in using the power of digital audio technology to improve the process of audio post production for film work. Their use of our new WaveFrame/7 digital audio workstations for this mix is exactly the kind of demanding film post situation for which we designed the system. Our engineers and support staff have worked very directly with David McCallum and his technical staff at Tattersall Casablanca, plus the staff of Sonotechnique, our distributor in Canada, to commission these new systems for this project. We’re very pleased with the outcome and look forward to delivering more systems as they upgrade their older WaveFrame units.”

WaveFrame’s new workstation is based on a new DSP platform running on the Windows 2000 operating system and offers up to 32 channels of 24-bit full bandwidth digital audio playback and recording. The system is available with various configurations of digital audio I/O, including ADAT, AES/EBU, and MADI. WaveFrame/7 features the well known WaveFrame editing interface along with special post production tools such as an integrated media database, auto-assembly, machine control, and an ADR/Foley mode.
