WaveFrame Locked to the Future at Sony Pictures, Florida State

Emeryville, CA - WaveFrame's dominant role as an audio editing platform for film and television has been reinforced by a number of recent sales. In Culver City, California, the Digital Studios Division of Sony Pictures has upgraded 24 existing WaveFrame workstations to the latest software and hardware versions. The refurbished units now incorporate Pentium II 450 processors, 408-Plus and R-8 Plus capabilities, and the latest V6.5 software. The WaveFrames are installed in both the film and television editing suites, and handle a full range of assignments, including ADR, Foley and effects.

"We upgraded our WaveFrames to stay in the forefront of technology," says Tom McCarthy, Senior Vice President of Sound Editorial at Sony Pictures. "It is important for us to have the most creative and effective work environment possible. WaveFrame has done that for us in the past, and the new upgrades already have proven a tremendous advantage for our editors."

Some of the first feature project completed on the upgraded WaveFrames include Hanging Up (directed by and starring Diane Keaton) and Big Daddy (directed by Dennis Dugan and starring Adam Sandler). "This upgrade represents a major re-commitment on behalf of Sony," says Dave Van Hoy of Advanced Systems Group, WaveFrame's exclusive distributor. "They know that you can't be known as one the top film audio facilities in the world unless you have the latest WaveFrame technology."

Down in Tallahassee Florida, the Film School at Florida State University has installed four new WaveFrame 408-Plus 16-track workstations. According to the school's Operations Engineer, Chuck Allen, the two of the WaveFrame workstations are set up for dedicated editing, one handles both editing and mixing, while the fourth is used for both editing and ADR/Foley.

Approximately 140 student productions will be posted on the WaveFrames during the coming year. Now entering its tenth year, the Film School at Florida State University is the largest and most comprehensive of any public institution in the state, and rapidly gaining recognition as one of the best in the USA. More than 200 students are currently enrolled in the Film School's undergraduate and graduate programs.
